Truths About Anxiety and 7 Tips to Manage Your Experiences

Everybody has anxiety.  Nobody “owns” the experience of anxiety for any other person or can tell someone else what anxiety is or isn’t for it to be “real.”

We all have to experience anxiety.  Can you imagine a world in which humans did not experience any anxiety?! That would be nuts!

Anxiety can help us survive and can serve as a warning and a guide, but when anxiety begins to take over and interfere with your daily experiences, that’s a problem.

Sometimes it’s hard to know if the ways in which you experience anxiety are a problem, especially when everybody talks about their own anxiety all the time and you try to compare your experiences with someone else’s.

If you are wondering whether anxiety is a problem for you, please reach out to your doctor or find a therapist who might be able to help you take a look at your experiences, assess your symptoms, and discuss what treatment interventions might be accessible and helpful for you.

Because anxiety IS something ALL humans experience, here are some ways to help manage your experiences of anxiety right now:

  • Practice mindfulness and/or meditation

  • Exercise (ANY physical movement)

  • Yoga

  • Share your experiences with trusted friends and/or family

  • Try breathing exercises

  • Take a shower or bath

  • Journal
